Folio 207: Henry Worsley to James Craggs. The ex-Duke of Ormond's intended expedition may have been cancelled in view of Lord Cobham's capture of Vigo and Ponte Vedra and reported advance on Santiago. Mr. Stert, a local English merchant, has been ordered by the King of Portugal to pay the duties demanded for the English naval stores, for which King promises to repay him later. This face-saving procedure adopted to preserve law of 30 March 1710 (ff.191, 197), specifying that all warlike stores, whether Portuguese or Allied, shall pay duties. French ambassador has not received any orders to cooperate with him over Quadruple Alliance representatives (f.155), nor does Portuguese Secretary of State know anything about it. Latter has promised an answer soon concerning Count Tarouca (f.179).
Date and place: 1719 Nov 6, NS Lisbon.
