Folio 27: Henry Worsley to James Craggs. Congratulations on his appointment. Contrary to what he wrote in his dispatch of the 3rd (f.22), it is now evident that the Spanish mobilisation is being accelerated and not retarded. Portuguese defensive measures few and feeble. Another Portuguese squadron may go to help the Venetians. Delay in arrival of the Rio Fleet very prejudicial to Anglo-Portuguese trade, as is the toleration of three French ships at Bahia (f.24). Death of Factory chaplain and need to appoint another, as per enclosure (f.29). Sailing of Portuguese East-Indiamen and Brazil fleets. Northern mail stopped at Badajoz owing to a trivial dispute between Spanish and Portuguese postmasters.
Date and place: 1718 Apr 23, NS Lisbon.
