Folio 222: Henry Worsley to the Hon. James Stanhope. Arrival of French consul bound for Rio de Janeiro, who hopes to get confirmation of his patent from the Portuguese Crown, as Worsley fears he will, `for tis visible the French interest increases daily'. Will forward soon the petitions of grievances from the British Factories at Lisbon and Oporto (cf. f.246). King still at Azeitão. Will do his best to help Mr. Shepheard though it is very difficult `for a British subject to have common right done him where any Frenchman's interest is concerned'.
