Description

Folio 186: Henry Worsley to the Hon. James Stanhope. Gratitude for his credentials and promotion. Interview with King and Queen and former's assurance of importance of the Anglo-Portuguese alliance. Problem of the Guarda-Mor visiting all outward-bound ships. Loyal addresses from the Factories at Lisbon and Oporto (f.104, 111A). Conclusion of Portuguese-Spanish Peace Treaty at Utrecht, and King John V's desire for an English guarantee. French intrigues. News from Cadiz and his own opinion on the future of British trade with Spanish South America.
