Folio 163: Henry Worsley to James Stanhope. Portuguese have now agreed to negotiate a peace with Spain through French mediation, at Lisbon, while averring they still will not sign it without the mediation and guarantee of Great Britain. Spanish diplomatic moves. French efforts to get a vice-consulship in Brazil. His protest against the usual wine-tax (cf. f.173). Encloses letter from Secretary of State relating to the peace negotiations (f.175).
