Folio 251: Thomas Leffever to Lord Dartmouth. Communications for and with General Stanhope. Portuguese ambassador at Madrid has urged that Portuguese army should take up winter quarters in Spain. Need to cooperate loyally with the States General in all the Anglo-Dutch negotiations relating to Portugal. Portuguese anxious to take Badajoz in the next campaign, as they think Charles III will not give it to them as stipulated in the secret article of the 1703 Treaty.
Date and place: 1710 Nov 20 Lisbon.
