Folio 151: Thomas Leffever to Lord Dartmouth. Congratulates him on the allied victory at Saragossa. Portuguese now talk about besieging Badajóz, but he thinks they will do nothing material. Protestant services will be continued unobtrusively at the Embassy though Lord Galway has left it. Has demanded that the Spanish captain imprisoned at Viana (f.98) be speedily tried. Portuguese complain of English smuggling goods through the Customs by British store-ships and in the Falmouth packet-boats, `and the English merchants here complain of it as much as the Court.' Goods taken out of galleons captured by Dutch.
