Folio 196: Consul John Milner to [Sir Charles Hedges]. Fall of Madrid seems imminent. Hopes King Charles III will go there soon, as the Spanish grandees are loath to submit to the Portuguese `whom they both hate and despize'. All the credit is due to Lord Galway for getting the reluctant Portuguese as far as Madrid. News of the other fronts.
Date and place: 1706 July 2 Lisbon.
