Folio 280: John Methuen to Sir Charles Hedges. Division of the cavalry horses made to the satisfaction of all concerned despite Schonenberg's obstruction. Charles III and Spanish (Catalan) troops have embarked on the fleet. He has lent former 57,000 dollars as per enclosed receipt (f.278), on behalf of Queen Anne, Portuguese having promised to repay him out of the subsidies due to them when the confiscated Spanish-American silver arrives from Rio de Janeiro. Arrangements for paying and provisioning the transport-ships to go with the fleet. Has also provided money for Lord Peterborough's expedition to Catalonia and material and provisions for Gibraltar. Prospects of a general uprising in Catalonia if the allies land there, are very good. Has impressed upon the Queen-Dowager the need for the Portuguese to mount an offensive in the autumn to complement the allied landing in Catalonia.
