Folio 262: John Methuen to [Sir Charles Hedges]. Arrival of Lord Peterborough. Gunpowder for Gibraltar and for the King of Portugal. Distribution of horses for the cavalry. Payment of the Spanish (Catalan) regiment, for which he hopes to be reimbursed. Siege of Badajóz aborted and the whole campaign `a short series of all the most inconsistent follies that can be imagined' due to dissensions in the high command. Troops have gone into summer quarters and he fears the projected autumn campaign will prove equally abortive. His advice as to what should be done.
