Folio 177: John Methuen to [Sir Charles Hedges]. Complains of Captain Legg, R.N., who goes prize-hunting with two warships instead of helping Gibraltar as ordered. English troops in Portugal satisfactorily settled in winter quarters. His interview with King Pedro in which he expressed Queen Anne's entire confidence in him and hopes for better success in next campaign. King replied suitably but asked for cavalry horses to be sent from England. King in fairly good health `but his constitution is much broke of late'.
