Description

Folio 128: John Methuen to Sir Charles Hedges. Arrival of military supplies and artificers. Portuguese resentment is justified since no ships were left to guard the Portuguese coast when Rooke's fleet sailed to the Mediterranean, contrary to the terms of the Treaty. Ill conduct of the military operations in the Alentejo, which has allowed a very inferior Franco-Spanish army to mount a successful invasion.
