Folio 100: John Methuen to Earl of Nottingham. Arrival of Sir Andrew [= John ?] Leake. Thinks it very unlikely that the King of Portugal can or will supply 2,000 troops for Sir George Rooke's expedition. Difficulties concerning employment of some senior officers. Troops on frontier well provided for, but Irish recruits are deserting daily. News of Franco-Spanish military preparations, which gives grounds for our optimism. King intends to leave for the front on the 8th.
Date and place: 1704 May 1, NS Lisbon.
