Description

Folio 88: [John Methuen] to `Mr. Flemming, commonly called Lord Slane.' Cannot recommend him officially for a post in the Portuguese army until he receives Queen Anne's decision on his application, pending which he will give him a Colonel's daily pay of two piecesof eight.

Date and place: 1704 Apr 19 Lisbon.
