Folio 72: Paul Methuen to Earl of Manchester. Has communicated news of William III's death, Queen Anne's accession, and allied determination to prosecute the war vigorously to the acting Secretary of State and King Pedro. The latter has acknowledged Queen Anne's letter in very friendly terms, and Methuen hopes that he may be induced to remain neutral after all, if he will not join the Allies. Has spoken to the Consul about the merchants.
