Lengthy account of long interview with the King, who still declines to give a positive assurance of neutrality, although very desirous of maintaining the Anglo-Portuguese alliance. Evil influence of the pro-French Duke of Cadaval. Imperial ambassador leaving for Vienna soon, thoroughly disgusted with `the natural pride and vanity of these haughty people'.
