Folio 44: Paul Methuen to James Vernon. Difficulties of the English merchants who have inadvisably involved themselves in the asiento of the Portuguese Cacheo Company. The Factory are not in favour of Sir John Houblon's suggestion that they should petition the King of Portugal for protection and a formal assurance of Portuguese neutrality, and the reasons why, with which he agrees. King and Queen-Dowager have gone into mourning for the death of James II, but have not been publicly notified of it.
