Folio 32: Paul Methuen to James Vernon. Discussion with the Imperial Ambassador concerning Portuguese neutrality and the best means of obtaining it in the event of an Anglo-French war over Louis XIV's recognition of the Pretender. Their separate interviews with King Pedro, and the latter's failure to give a categorical declaration of neutrality while implying he would remain neutral in such an eventuality. Requests further instructions as to how fare he should press the King, or proffer some help over the Cacheo Company.
