Folio 111: John Methuen to Sir John Trenchard. Repair and refitting of H.M.S. Assistance, for which he requests the bills should be promptly paid. Mishap to the Newfoundland convoy, and urgent need for the Admiralty to maintain a squadron off the coast to protect English and spoil French trade. Asks for further instructions and clarification on pressing Portugal to join the Grand Alliance.
Date and place: 1693 Feb 10/20 Lisbon.
