Folio 107: John Methuen to Sir John Trenchard. Has at last got the King to issue an order restricting the activity of the belligerent privateers. Loss of many of the Newfoundland Fleet and animadversions thereon. Encloses a letter from the Secretary of State (f.113), which explains King Pedro's temporising attitude to the Grand Alliance, which he thinks will become more favourable if Parliament displays `an absolute intention' of prosecuting and financing the war with vigour.
