Folio 135: Charles Fanshaw to Earl of Sunderland. Is on excellent terms with French ambassador, St. Romain, and with the Abbé de Lorrain, `A very fine young gentleman', who is paying a brief visit to Lisbon, probably to induce his brother-in-law, the Duke of Cadaval to favour a French bride for the King. No news received from Goa but the Jesuits and monopoly-contractors have been expelled from the Maranhão by the settlers. A Crown lawyer, Simão de Sousa, appointed as Envoy to England. Three English prisoners from Mozambique finally released.
