Folio 209: Consul Maynard to [Mr. Trevanion]. Pro-French faction now uppermost at Court and in government. Despite the vital importance of English trade to Portugal, Portuguese continue to oppress the English merchants who are disliked more than any other foreigners. The informers who betrayed the contraband bullion (f.57) now identified as Curin, Murphy and Alderne. Competitors for the vacant vice-consulship at Lisbon. Endorsed: `Recd. by Mr Trevanion'.
