Folio 139: Consul Maynard to [Sir Leoline Jenkins]. Barton's deportation from Oporto (f.115), largely the work of the R.C. members of the Factory, abetted by the English Seminary at Lisbon and the Jesuits. Recent converts to Roman Catholicism at Oporto include Pickering and Wrothsly of Houblon's London-based firm. He cannot displace Vice-Consul Murcott there (f.123, 125) nor get the full payment of the consulage due him, which he will willingly waive for a settlement of £750 p.a.
Date and place: 1683 Apr 2/12 Lisbon.
