Folio 143: Consul Maynard to [Sir Leoline Jenkins ?]. Effusive protestations of his loyalty to Church and King. Eulogy of Fanshaw, whom he considers to be more capable and forceful than his predecessors. Portuguese will continue their obstructive and delaying tactics over both the treaty and the Queen's Portion, and thinks Fanshaw should go home on leave to persuade Charles II to take more forceful action. English victories against the Barbary corsairs and other shipping news. Liberty of conscience first granted to English in Portugal by the Treaty of 1642, and not in Cromwell's Treaty of 1654, as everyone thinks.
