Folio 142: Francis Parry to Secretary Coventry. Thanks for copies of the Anglo-Algerian Peace Treaty and the royal proclamation against the abuse of English `flags of convenience' (ff.118A, 124). Consul Maynard is one of the guilty parties in this respect, but hopes he will not be so in future. The Portuguese in Bombay have sent Alvaro Pires de Tavora to London to complain about their alleged mistreatment by the E. India Co., and it is now reported that the Portuguese government will offer to buy back the island from Charles II. Hopes King will grant his application for three or four months compassionate leave, as Coventry has promised to support it.
