Folio 186: Francis Parry to Lord Arlington. Portuguese envoy at Rome has memorialised the Pope for permission to levy a new tax on the clergy in Portugal, nominally in order to raise funds for the reconquest of their lost colonies in Asia, but the Portuguese Bishops have advised the Pope against this project. Sends copy of his memorial to the Prince-Regent (f.170), and a Latin text of his projected new commercial treaty, together with an authorized Portuguese translation of the same.
