Folio 169: Sir Robert Southwell to Lord Arlington. Difficulties of his negotiations with the government, owing to the reluctance of the Prince-Regent and everyone else to take any responsibility. The Queen's Portion and Portuguese counter-claims for housing at Tangier. Portuguese negotiations at Rome over the vacant bishoprics threaten to become bogged down. Report that Lous XIV will enlist 6,000 Portuguese soldiers as substitutes for Swiss guards. D'Estrées French fleet bound for the West Indies. Progress of Queen's pregnancy.
