Interview with Castelmelhor, who said that if Spanish delays in negotiating force Portugal into an alliance with France, he hopes this will not annoy English government. Duke de Beaufort well received at Lisbon, but his fleet is sickly. Was entertained at Badajoz by Caracena and at Estremoz by Schomberg. Both sides on the frontier are weary of the war. English troops are eight months in arrears, and English merchants complain of being ill used.
