Folio 157: Secretary Bennet to Sir Richard Fanshaw. Approves his decision to allow Lawson to help the Portuguese at sea, but is astonished at his sudden decision to return home. King orders him to stay at Lisbon if this letter reaches him there in time, or even at sea after his departure. Negotiations begun for a new Anglo-Spanish treaty. Clarendon complains he has received no news from Fanshaw for a long time. The Queen is at Tunbridge Wells where the King will join her as soon as Parliament recesses.
