The earlier records of the Charity Commission (otherwise in CHAR) relate solely to educational endowments transferred to the department under the Board of Education Act 1899. They have retained their Charity Commission reference numbers but were also stamped with the institution or foundation number used by the board. Subsequent records are in the Board of Education series.
