Folio 208. [Leopold I] to [the Writ office of] the circle of Bavaria. Imperial rescript, exhorting them to support the defence association of the six 'upper' circles with men and matériel, i.e. provisions, artillery and munition, particularly their matricular circle contingent of 6879 men, or, in case their full recruiting should meet with difficulties, to reinforce it with the regiment Spielberg and to place it within the 'Associations corps' under the command of margrave Louis William of Baden-Baden. Reference to the reluctance of the prince-archbiship of Salzburg [John Ernest count Thun] to join the association which he, the archbishop, thought a rather 'questionable alliance' ('bedenkliche Allianze'); points out that the Association was entirely righteous and firmly based upon the empire statutes.
