Folio 168. The delegates of the writ office of the circle of Upper Rhine to [George Louis] von Völckern, imperial councillor and resident at Frankfurt. Völckern has reminded the delegates of the circle currently assembled that he has no complete and proper report concerning the dispute between the landgrave of Hessen-Cassel and the directorate of the circle. It has therefore been decided to inform Völckern more fully about the former [unrevoked] alliance of Hessen-Cassel with the estates and to explain that the Hessen-Cassel troops whose training is vastly superior to that of the forces remaining [in the rest of the circle] will operate jointly with the others within the [imperial] main army on the Upper Rhine. This may also move towards co-operation those estates who have kept away from the convention. A report will be submitted to the Emperor immediately upon the recess [of the circle]. Enclose an account of the origin and present state of the dispute.
