Description

Folio 63. The delegates to the convention of the six 'upper' circles, at Frankfurt assembled, to the directors and writ-offices of the circles of Upper Saxony, i.e. electorate of Saxony, and of the circle of Lower Saxony, i.e. Sweden, electorate of Brandenburg and[duchy of] Brunswick[-Lüneburg]-Celle. Transmit [an advanced copy of] the main recess (see f.24) and preparatory documents. Explain that the urgency and complicated nature of their convention no less than distance prevented them from inviting the other circles to their deliberations. Ask them to accept the provisions of their recess and encourage them to accede to their defence association. Suggest, in particular, that the circle of Lower Saxony consider summoning an ad hoc convention and remind them that the 'triple' of the repartition of 1681 charges them to maintain a force of 12,084, 3963 horse and 8121 foot, but admit that contributing such a contingent may well be subject to delay. However, since it is known that the estates represented in that circle have considerable forces at their disposal, they request that reinforcement of whatever strength and whenever possible be sent to the Rhine.
