Projet de l'Association entre les six Circles Superieurs' (anon.), setting forth, in six articles, purpose and possible organization of the association of the six circles situate on or near the Rhine for raising and maintaining of a regular and permanent militia for both the actual defence of the empire and the safeguarding of peace; to be established by a consultative convention of circle 'directors' and of delegates of the estates within the circles concerned under the superintendence of the elector of Mayence [Lothar Francis, prince Schönborn] as [arch-] chancellor of the empire, the assembly to determine functions of, and contributions by, the several circles. The project has, in principle, the Emperor's approval. Endorsed by Stepney: 'Given to the King at Loo. Sept 1696'.
