Folio 157. From Schweinfurt. Acknowledges [probably on behalf of Colt] letters of April 15/25 and 19/29. Admits that neither he nor Colt know much about Sir John Trenchard [Secretary of state for the northern department since 1692] who is 'having so good a friend as Mr Vernon in his office'. They are assured that Heemskerck 'is to stay with Paget as well when there is nothing to doe as when he intended to do it all alone'. No certainty yet about the commencement of the march, the resolutions of the Frankish circle are expected any day; on the Elector's side everything is ready for it. 'Phillis and Philander' are together at Frankfurt. Duke Frederick is at Hamburg, keeping 'himself very private onely with four persons, having very often changed his lodgings, all which is very suspectfull. Monsr. [Bartholomaeus] Meuschen [Danish chargé d'affaires] will know nothing of it'. PS.: 'Just now there is one arrived from the circle of Franconia to adjust the passage ...'.
