Folio 93. From [? Sir Charles Bickerstaffe, clerk of the Privy Seal, subsequently deputy lieutenant of Kent]. Sends Stepney, 'agent to the Emperor's court and in other places', a copy of his privy seal, dated Mar 24 [i.e. 21/31], for £3 a day for his 'ordinary entertainment', to commence with Dec 11 [i.e. 11/21] last, with the usual clause for allowance of his extraordinaries. Adds: '... The King goes from hence on Friday next [Mar 24/Apr 3], he has [not] yet declared a new secretary, but if he does before he goes ''tis thought Mr Montague will be the man [for] about half a yeare, a quo Dr [George] Oxenden [master of Trinity Hall, Cambridge] was made vice chancellor of the university of Cambridge which your sister desires you might know. All friends are well. Adieu'. [Unsigned].
