Folio 92. From Blathwayt. Stepney is to stay at Vienna until a 'minister of a higher character' goes there, either from the King or from the States General, and on whose arrival Stepney will be sent to Ratisbon; there, however, he will settle 'in such a manner ...that upon all emergent occasions His Majty will make use of you in his business that may happen in any of the German courts, so that you may be termed, as you have heard Monsr Goertz of Hesse-Cassel is, l'apótre d'Allemagne, His Majty being entirely satisfyed of your fitness and abilities to serve him'. He, Blathwayt, is to attend the King again in the forthcoming campaign, the likely date of their departure to be Mar 20/30, Stepney to direct his letters, dispatches and material to [Matthew] Prior.
