Folio 90. Nottingham to [Hamel] Bruynincx [Dutch chargé d'affaires at Vienna]. He has read Bruynincx's letters of Dec 24, 27 and 31 to the King who entirely wishes the margrave of Baden to be commander-in-chief on the Rhine, of whose plans he approves as far as possible; he, will recommend the matter to count [Henry John Francis] Stratman 'who is here' [imperial envoy extraordinary, son of count Theodore Henry Althet Stratman, the Austrian court chancellor] so that it may, through his father's good offices, succeed to the margrave's contention and for the public good; the King has also this evening communicated to the [grand] pensionary [Antonie Heinsius] the measures proposed by Bruynincx on behalf of the margrave; he will hear [about the considerations of the States General] from the pensionary.
