Folio 89. From Nottingham. The King intends to write himself to the margrave of Baden. He, Nottingham, fears that a letter he had written to Hamel Bruynincx on Jan 10/20 (see f.90, q.s.) was misunderstood; though the King was, and is, very desirous that the margrave should command on the Rhine, Nottingham cannot see how the King can contribute money to the carrying on of the operations there, of which he had written to Stepney on Feb 7/17 (see f.85). Of Hamburg ships recently arrested all have been released except seven or eight which have plainly violated the avocations of the empire and are on that and other counts liable to forfeiture. The King has ordered the several cases to be examined by the judge of the admiralty in a summary way so that they might be released more speedily and without expense.
