Folio 147. To Blathwayt. Describes his first contacts with Saxon ministers at Dresden and emphasizes his very formal and non-committal reception by Gersdorff, 'a man of formes, & a minister of the last age'. - Schweinfurt has now joined him from Frankfurt and brought him a number of documents, but not the letter book containing Colt's dispatches from Dresden. Is at a loss how to make his court to 'the fair one' before having obtained an audience of the elector. Will try to use the services of count Friesen, his 'good friend and confidant'. Finds 'but imperfect accounts of the sprinklings' of the King's bounty in Colt's letters, and, since Schweinfurt was not much privy to these practices, he knows not much more and has consulted his 'old acquaintance' Stratford, '(who was the commissary dealing about corruption)'. What presses him most is the payment of the 50,000 rixdollars subsidies, now due.
