Folio 142v. To Mrs Holmes née Pickfield [or Rickfield, a friend of Matthew Prior's]. [From whom he had apparently received a letter. Not personally known to him]. Court scandal. Finds the elector 'a prince who follows the laudable example of King Charles the 2nd by being a reall father of his people, and the electrice makes much such a figure as poor queen Dowager did during Portsmouth's reign: in short, I know no place except old England where promiscuous living is more in fashion than in Saxony which is an essential proof we come of one breed'.
