Folio 139v. To Paget. Acknowledges letter of Apr 25 O.S. - Görtz has informed him of the termination of his 'commission' at Vienna. He has urged Portland, at Paget's behest, to move the King that he, Stepney, might be sent back to Vienna to keep up his correspondence with Paget, but since that would be to his financial disadvantage he has asked Blathwayt to 'prevent' it. He could, if necessary, carry on from Ratisbon, if sent there. - His mission at Dresden has come to an end. He has concluded two treaties with the [new] elector, one whereby the latter is obliged to 'act' for the duration of the war with 12,000 men and the necessary artillery for which he is to receive 400,000 rixdollars yearly as subsidies whereof 100,000 rixdollars fall to the King's share; and another by which he has 'rivitted' the elector into the Grand alliance in the King's name (see List SP 105/83, ff. 72-81). Has heard nothing more of a possible conference at Strij. - Continues chronicle of events in England and in the theatres of war.
