Description

Folio 137. To Paget. According to Bruynincx, Heemskerck had his 'dispatches' on Mar 2 and was ready to set out from Adrianople, whilst Colyer wrote [Bruynincx] from Constantinople on Mar 20 that Heemskerck 'had been sent away the 12th without any condition of peace'. - It is now certain that Lexington will be envoy extraordinary at Vienna. He, Stepney, guesses that he may either go to Sweden as envoy, or to Ratisbon 'without a character'. - Countess Rochlitz died of smallpox on Apr 4/14 and was buried 'with almost all those honours that should have been due to an electrice' and now the elector has been taken ill with apparently the same disease due to very close contact with the deceased during her illness and even with her corpse. - The elector of Cologne [Joseph Clement] has been 'declared' bishop of Liége. - To prevent the French from undertaking anything in those parts, the duke of [Holstein-] Ploen has formed a camp of 30,000 men on the Mehaigne and there are 20,000 men in garrison at Liége. - Paget's brother has gone to Venice.
