Folio 18. To [Sir Paul] Rycaut. Largely similar to f.15, but referring to the shady nature of the mission of Holtzbrinck to Vienna. He 'is an obscure and mean figure' whom the elector 'unexpectedly honoured' with the title of envoy and empowered with a secret commission to solicit Schöning's enlargement, by the 'powerful instances of 100,000 rixdollars', which, it is said, 'he had to scatter at the imperial court'. Foresees difficulties in the negotiations about the apportionment of this year's subsidies of 50,000 rixdollars due now. Believes Cresset to be with him, thus he may show him the letter but communicate what relates to Schöning to someone else. Comments on the recent accommodation between Denmark and the house of [Brunswick] - Lüneburg.
