Folio 12. To [David] Egar [senior clerk in Nottingham's office]. Deals with a debt of £500 owed by count [Sigismund Wilhelm] Königsegg [imperial envoy extraordinary to England 1690 Feb-April] to two Londoners named as Mr Fox and Mr Penkart. Advises caution and tact in approaching the matter of which Consbruck is aware and warns of the consequences to his position and mission if the debt were disclosed to the Emperor or one of the secretaries of state: the count is the son of the Emperor's first minister, it might be more adviseable that the creditors reported the matter to the imperial vice-chancellor by the ordinary post. Also mentions the continued quest by Mme Bellomont [i.e. Francesca Bard, daughter of Henry Bard, viscount Bellomont, mistress of the late prince Rupert and mother of his son] for settlement of her claim to 75,000 rixdollars from the Emperor: put up to it by the electoress Sophia of Hanover, who went to Vienna where she actually obtained an initial offer of 10,000 fl. from 'our cardinall' [Kollonitsch].
