Folio 84v. Stepney to Rycaut. Finds that prince Philip of Hessen has treated him 'scurvily' with regard to the O'Rourkes. Though the prince has at last sent orders for their release, he 'clog'd' them with such conditions that he, Stepney, could not bring himself to thank him. Encloses a copy of Philip's letter 'No. 3' to the prisoners [Not copied here]. It 'is rather a recrimination than a grace'. Their fate is still in the balance and they would run dangerous risks should they escape.
