Folio 81. Nottingham to Stepney. Acknowledges receipt of letter of Jan 28 which was read to the King who gave him no new orders since he intends to write himself to the margrave of Baden. Thinks his letter to Bruynincx was misunderstood, for, though the King is 'very desirous that the margrave should command on the Rhine, he cannot see how he can contribute money to the carrying on of the operations there, of which he wrote on Feb 7/17 (see f.68v).- All Hamburg ships are released except seven or eight which have clearly violated the avocatories of the Empire and are, on other accounts, too, liable to forfeitures. Their cases will, on King's orders, be examined by the admiralty 'in summary way, so that they might be released speedily and without expense.Date and Place: 1693 Feb 14/24 Whitehall
