Description

Folio 74. To Couneau. [See List SP 105/60, ff.105v and 108]. Writes on behalf of Mr von Blauenstein (see List SP 105/86, f.355), an elderly artillery officer with the rank of major, a former equerry to prince Rupert after whose death [1682] he entered Saxon service of which he has done ten years. He isan expert in gunfounding, particularly the chemistry thereof [i.e. metal amalgamation] and many iron guns have been cast in accordance with his formula. However, in consequence of the recent 'revolution' [i.e. change of government], his pay has not been raised and, finding himself in somewhat reduced circumstances, he now wishes to quit [Saxon electoral service] and seek employment elsewhere. Since there are many fortresses in Brandenburg, their governors may need commanders or sub-commanders and he would be well suited for such a position, perhaps at such places as Wesel or Cleves, he being a native of Moers [near Duisburg]. He ought to obtain an introduction to [Eberhard von] Danckelmann [Brandenburg chief minister] .

Date and Place: 1694 Aug 15 (? 15/25) Dresden

Note
[hand of Plantamour]. Attention is drawn to the following passage towards the end of the letter for which no explanation can be found in the documents copied into this volume: 'Mr Plantamour vient de recevoir votre lettre et Mr Vincent me mande que vous luy avez conté les 125 écuis par ordres de Mr Du Cros à la femme de qui je les avoit déjà donnez par avance. Elle est allée à Teplitz pour s'y divertir avec Madame l'Electrice'.
