Description

Miscellaneous correspondence, minute books, inspectors' reports, etc of the Committee of the Privy Council on Education and associated departments.

The surviving documents include the manuscript minutes of proceedings of the Committee of the Council on Education, 1839 to 1841; minute book of the secretary of the committee, 1848 to 1871; and papers of the Science and Art Department.

Only one manuscript volume of the minutes of the Committee of the Council on Education has survived.

Some volumes relate to non-recurrent subjects.

This series is neither large nor complete, defies classification, yet contributes to the study of educational history.
