The required sanction of the Education Department to each transfer was given only after receipt and examination of a form of enquiry containing details of the tenure of the school, description of buildings, and a statement as to the arrangements proposed between the managers of the school and the School Board.
Most of the schools for which there are transfer files in this series were closed before 1905; there are some cases of schools being re-transferred back to managers under Section 24 of the above mentioned Act.
